Unique Boulder Elopement Photos – Firehouse Elopement Photographer

Athena & Andrew’s Unique Sunrise Elopement at a Fire Station

special couple is on the blog today with their unique boulder elopement: my own bff Athena married her dreamboat and perfect match, Andrew! It was an amazing, beautiful, emotional day and to make a long story short, I cried a LOT. The strength of their bond and prolific giggles from these two are pretty obvious. We even got to incorporate their beloved cat in a few of the getting-ready photos. While it was a challenge to shoot portraits before dawn (hint: it’s pitch black outside!) I was determined to create something epic for them, so I backlit portraits of Athena using her fall wedding colors. Also, there may have been a dragon.

The Warrior Vibes

I loved the way Athena personalized her wedding look with serious warrior vibes. She hand made her own tweed grey cape and styled a don’t-mess-with-me mohawk updo. Combat boots and a fall-colors flower arrangement on her arm completed the look and she proved her badass status. She even walked Andrew’s meteorite-infused ring down the aisle on a chain around her neck. (hot.) Andrew looked sharp in tweed and coordinating maroon & yellow shirt and tie, and I don’t know anyone else that could pull off that color combo so well. Also, #beardgoals.

The Unique Elopement Ceremony

They exchanged tearful vows in a backyard ceremony at sunrise surrounded by close family only. What a treat it was to witness them speak their heartfelt vows to each other. They had a reading of Wild Geese by Mary Oliver, and then an actual flock of wild geese flew over us overhead. Whomever arranged for that, Thank you! I was already crying because of that, and then the moment they shared right after the first kiss is when I really lost it. Guests rushed to me with tissues which I desperately needed because I couldn’t shoot through all the tears.. #emotionallyinvested. See my bloopers here!

Firehouse Reception

Later that evening, they gathered with all their friends and loved ones at the fire station where Andrew is a volunteer fire fighter, a personal nod to them both being first responders. The firehouse wedding reception was decorated with helmets and DO NOT CROSS table runners and they shared their first dance surrounded by the fire trucks. I couldn’t be happier to share these highlights from their incredibly unique elopement in Boulder, Colorado. Congratulations you two!
